Security Officer… or a Licensed Guard? Compare the Difference

Security Officer… or a Licensed Guard?

Compare the Difference

At Security Dynamics Corp our security officers are highly trained and experienced law enforcement professionals. While Illinois law requires only 20 hours of training to license an unarmed security guard, and just 20 hours more to work armed with a gun, most SDC security officers have over 400 hours of law enforcement training. SDC Security Officers are primarily off-duty law enforcement professionals with training and practical experience in a wide variety of law enforcement functions and experience in managing crisis or emergency situations. Licensed guards are often used to watch and monitor buildings or locations, such as a mall or school. Security officers are required when the environment or situation potentially requires decision making, emergency intervention, or protection of people and property. At Security Dynamics Corp we hire law enforcement professionals with the proven ability to make good decisions in emergency situations where your people and property need protection. SDC professional security officers and investigators meet the following minimum requirements:
  • Illinois State Firearms Certification
  • State Security certification
  • Successfully pass a criminal background check
  • At least 21 years of age
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years of law enforcement experience OR Associates Degree OR minimum 5 years of security experience with supervisory experience

Compare the Differences

  1. SDC security officers are motivated career professionals working in their chosen field, and take pride in their work as law enforcement officers. Typically security guards are working at low-paying, non-career, part-time jobs.
  1. SDC Security Officers have on-the-job experience and have received professional training in managing people under stressful circumstances. Security guard training usually offers little communication training or real-life crisis management experience.
  1. SDC Security Officers are qualified to handle high-stress situations which require good judgment and skills developed through training and experience. Security guards frequently receive minimal training or on-the-job supervision or support.
The protection of your people, property and assets are your #1 priority. SDC Security Officers act as both a deterrent to crime and the first response in case an emergency situation does arise. Our highly trained security officers have the skills and experience to identify and manage an emergency situation, and the knowledge and expertise to take appropriate actions to protect your people and property within the law and with a reduction in liabilities.

Training, experience and qualifications separate premium security professionals from your average security guard.
